The natural park of the banks of the Var river
This future park will extend over nearly 650 hectares on both banks of the Var.
The objectives : to develop the banks, preserve the canals, and create a recreational area for walks and nature observation.
A remarkable biodiversity
The General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes is at the origin of this natural park, which is listed in the European ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.
This site, with its exceptional Mediterranean biodiversity, will stretch over 20 km, from the mouth of the river to the South, to the confluence with La Vésubie river to the North. Preserving this ecosystem is a key component of the Eco-Vallée’s overall environmental policy. This area will add on to the fourteen natural parks spread over 4300 hectares within the Alpes Maritimes department.
Among the key objectives, to preserve the natural environment while allowing people to enjoy the riversides, and to do the necessary work to ensure better flood risk management.
By bike or on foot
A cycling path already runs along the left bank of the river from the bridge of La Manda crossing over to the right side all the way to the Charles-Alber bridge, and leading to the Park of Lac du Broc. This lane will be extended on the left bank from the La Manda bridge to link up to path towards the airport.
