The economic challenge is to capitalize on the existing potential and at the same time to adopt a new, innovative global strategy. The objective is to boost all sectors of activity.

Triggering strong dynamics

One of the three main axes of the territorial project is to « trigger strong economic and social dynamics within the whole metropolitan territory». The leverage effect generally produced by an Operation of National Interest should help launch an economic rebound in the Nice urban area, and beyond throughout the Alpes-Maritimes. The economic strategy for the Eco-Vallée is in line with the national strategic policies in terms of green growth, as well as research and innovation, with the competitive clusters.

A global economic strategy

The strategy adopted by the Eco-Vallée is geared at increasing the international visibility of the Côte d’Azur, placing an eco-exemplary commitment at the heart of its economic development. The goal is to reinforce the territory’s capacity to attract new companies, while ensuring the “endogenous” development of the existing businesses.

A clear objective for each sector

As part of the strategy, a clear objective has been defined for each sector of activity within the territory:

To increase quaternary sector activities thanks to a new commercial real estate offer within the Grand Arénas. The goal is to boost the number of headquarters and big international groups located in Nice, in order to create more tertiary employment opportunities and reinforce the positioning of the metropolis.

To reinforce the international dimension of business tourism, thanks to the construction of a new exhibition park situated close to the airport.

To support Research & Development, with a mix of research centers and high tech companies, in particular in the fields of sustainable development and health. The project of the Nice Méridia urban technopolis will allow cross fertilization between big and small companies within the incubators, research and development centers, university establishments… As a first illustration of this strategy, the Mediterranean Institute of Risk, Environment and Sustainable Development* was installed on the site, in January 2012. (Institut Méditerranéen du Risque, de l’Environnement et du Développement Durable (IMREDD).

To relaunch logistics activities with a new distribution platform for agri-food and horticulture companies at La Baronne-Lingostière.

To favor an eco-friendly industrial development, which implies a form of reindustrialization, that is respectful of the environment. This will be the case for a range of operations concerning the extension, densification, requalification of existing sites, as well as for new sites (for instance, the Roguez project led by the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis).

To enable a new sustainable model for agriculture, which has seen a rebound in the Plaine du Var as consumers demand for fresh local products has picked up. The sectors of Nice-Arboras, Gattières and Le Broc-Gilette have been identified as agricultural excellence poles by the Chamber of Agriculture.

To create new commercial dynamics, which will rely on the commitment of the existing shopping districts of Cap 3000 and Lingostière, to adopt the Eco- Vallée’s high environmental standards. A new commercial scheme is currently being mapped out for the whole territory (lien vers le scott).
